During the first week of August, we held our first ever week-long summer camp at The Greenhouse. We had a lot of fun, and so did the kids . . . and parents!
This year’s camp included a variety of activities to engage kids with the natural world around them, and to encourage them to explore their local environments. After spending the week picking berries, collecting tadpoles, exploring a composter, munching on local herbs and vegetables, making a human sundial, dying fabric with natural dyes and creating homemade paper from unusual materials; the kids demonstrated their newfound knowledge by expertly completing a challenging scavenger hunt on the last day of camp. We were very impressed.
Later this fall, we hope to begin offering half-day, day-long and evening workshops for kids of all ages as well as adults. Topics may include jamming and pickling, kite-making, paper-making, ice cream and sorbet, natural dyes, herbal teas, baking with garden herbs and berries, wreath-making, etc.
